Since its inception in the year 1970, the Department of English and the Post Graduate Center of our college endeavors not only to make our students academically sound but also to unfold the latent creative talents of the students by organizing various co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, thereby imbibing versatility and dynamism in the students. The Postgraduate Center was set up in The activities of our Department include organizing seminars on subjects of academic interest, workshops on Communication Skills, Personality Development, etc., guest lectures of distinguished personalities from the field of English Language and Literature, introduction of a wallpaper which gives the students an opportunity to display their creative talents, competitions such as National Level Poetry Writing, Story Writing, Essay Writing, Book-review Writing Competition, Presentation Competition, Fine Arts Competition which includes drawing, painting, making greeting cards, posters, etc. we expose our students to academic luminaries and have invited in the past great stalwarts such as the double Sahitya Academy Award Winner and bilingual write Shri. Dilip Chitre and the thespian Dr. Mohan Agashe to interact with our students. The Department thus offers the students a platform to acquire and showcase their talents at the same time develop academic competence which enables them to carve a niche for themselves in the contemporary world.
Goals
- To create interest in gaining competence in English Language and Literature
- To increase knowledge about literary genres and their elements
- To guide students to delve into literary criticism and gain practical useof the literary theories
- To introduce the students to different contemporary modes of communication to be used in the teaching learning processes
- To encourage the use of multimedia, internet, etc. to aid learning, gain access to reference material, attempt assignments and create presentations
Objectives
- To make students techno-savvy by introducing new and innovative techniques of teaching and learning English Language and Literature
- To create multifaceted personalities and thereby bring out the latent talents of our students through co-curricular and extra-curricular activities
- To expose students to great stalwarts from the academic and other fields related to Literature such as theatre and films
- To harness the creative talents of our students
- To inculcate team-spirit, leadership qualities and communication skills through language games, Group Discussion etc.

- Represented SPPU as a Team Leader of a Maharashtrian Team selected for National Integration Camp organized at Gulbarga by the National Service Scheme Cell of Gulbarga University in collaboration with Government of Karnataka, Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports, and State National Service Scheme Cell from 13th March 2018 to 19th March 2018. A certificate was also issued by Gulbarga University, Kalburgi.
