Computer Science - Poona College

The Department of Computer Science was established in Poona College of Arts, Science & Commerce in the year 1988 with a rather modest strength of 20 students. It consists of two classrooms, a computer laboratory consisting of 20 computers and a staff of only six teachers. Since its inception, the Department Computers Science, Poona College has made admirable progress and has enquired an enviable reputation as a leading educational institution in Pune.
The PG course was introduced in the year 1994 with an intake of 20 students. Today, it boasts of a modern infrastructure at par with some of the best computer institutions in Pune. At present it has three computer laboratories consisting of the latest computers, printers, scanners, UPS and other facilities such as the Internet, OHP and DLP. It has a total strength of above 475 students, consisting of both Indian and Foreign Nationals. It has highly qualified and competent staff and has been consistently excellent results so far. Some of the staff members are also involved in research work.

Goals

To teach students how to apply the principles of Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics and Electronics to solve real-world scientific problems appropriate to the discipline.
To teach students learning skills, this will allow them to adapt to new evolving technologies successfully in their career. We are committed to the free software and open source software.
To prepare students for employment and advanced studies and provide them skill for software development for real-world problems.
To teach students to work in a team efficiently and effectively in their professional careers.
To prepare students to be conscious ethically, socially, legally and professional related issues to computing.

Objectives

To provide students with latest skills in the field of computer science and technology and to realize the importance of life-long learning.
To provide the ability among the students to take part in Cocurricular and extracurricular activities.
Motivating the students to involve in research and development projects.
We are working with the constituents from the industry and alumni to build relationships that will help placement of our students and alumni share their industry experiences and provide training to our students in the latest technologies.
To provide research environment for students and faculty members to generate knowledge and develop technologies in the thrust areas of computer science.
