Established in the pre Independence era i.e. in 1927, AKI is serving nearly 22000 students and 700 orphans.
The committed and supportive Trustees, dedicated staff and teachers and caring and cooperative parents is the perfect blend for us at AKI.

History

Dedicated to the cause of Orphans and Education, Y & M Anjuman Khairul Islam started its drive in the pre-independence era in 1927. With 6 orphans and 2 students, Mohammed Idrees Mahlledar started a limited time Madrasa in Babu Hakim’s dispensary on Morland Road, Mumbai. Later in the same year, with the help of elders of the area 2 rooms was purchased in Danish Villa (Old name Rahimu Seth ki Chawl) 2nd Ghelabhai Street, Madanpura Mumbai.

Now with 48 Educational institutions and 4 orphanages, Y & M AKI has an inspiring journey. An informal but elected managing committee under the Presidency of Munshi Mohammed Maqbool Husain and few regular subscribers for the donation was formed in 1930 with 84 students. Besides religious teachings, Bombay Municipal curriculum for primary schools in the same year was added. With the number of orphans increasing, i.e. from 6 to 32, in 1942, the need for funds arose. It was unimaginable that the managing body went door to door with the begging bowls for petty coins. The humble but louder voice reached the elites and wealthy. Among well-known personalities, Mohammed Ali Jinnah and Sir Karimbhoy Ibrahim Baronet donated Rs.500 each.  Very next year Mohammed Ali Jinnah donated Rs.10,000.

It was during 1942-43, AKI primary schools, Madanpura was enlisted for grant-in-aid and a valuable amount of Rs. 304 was sanctioned. For secondary education orphans were sent to Saboo Siddique High School, Anjuman e Islam Agbotwala School, Khoja Khan Mohamed Habib School.

First major milestone is in 1946 when Khairul Islam Manzil besides Bengali Masjid was bought for orphanages in Rs.16000/. Also, first informal trust is established with Munshi Asrarul Haq Ansari, Munshi Mohammed Ishaque, Munshi Mohammed Yahya & Alhaj Ansari Abdur Rehman Atlaswala. During 1947-48-  Munshi Moinuddin Gorakhpuri, a building construction professional entered as a member of the trust and within two years, due to his hard work, he was elected as the President. He proved to be a boon to the institution by his zeal and enthusiasm. It is to say he was a God sent gift.

To summarise the progress of the institutions a comment of the inspection visit of a well-known educationist Mr.S.S. Densavi, in 1952, is quoted here. He wrote, ” The maintenance of the orphans together with the primary schools are successfully running under the supervision of the said institution.’ Just after We got Independence from the British rule and our constitution was drafted in 1950, The committee decided to register the Trust. 1952-53 is notable in the history of Y&M AKI as Munshi Moinuddin Gorakhpuri got the first audited report of the Trust, drafted written Constitution for the approval of the general public. Another historic milestone is achieved when the AKI along with its framed constitution was registered under the Public Trust Act of 1950 with the registration certificate number B-339.

The Phenomenal Growth Of The Institute Has Been Possible Due To The Far-Sightedness, Dedication, Devotion, Grit, Determination And Hard Work Of The Trustees Of Anjuman Khairul Islam. The Trust Believes In Giving The Best And It Magnanimously Funds In Such Educational Projects. In The Service Of The Nation It Also Shapes Better Citizens, Its Motto Being ‘Shaping Better Managers For Future “.

I am honored and privileged to be part of Y & M Anjuman Khairul Islam, one of the oldest Orphanages and Educational institutions in Maharashtra.
I have grown up within the vicinity where the movement to the cause of orphans and education started providing an emotional touch to the poor and needy.
The situation is very testing, if not worst. Being a guardian to orphans and poor students and empowering them with a quality education is not only compelling but at the same time very challenging.
Economically weaker, illiterate or semi-literate parents, lack of quality schools in the neighborhood resulted in the lower enrollment in schools especially, among the girl child. Dropout rates are always a cause of concern especially in the higher education field.
A humble effort initiated by elders and visionaries now has established itself and grown many folds. Going through the reports of this year, it can easily be said that we are on the right path and need to speed up the process for the educational empowerment of poor and needy.
By the grace of Allah, we are happy to announce that we are in a process of adding another feather in the cap of Y&M AKI. We have acquired the land and necessary approval to establish Grand Women’s College, for Arts, Science and Commerce in Thane.
May Allah accept our endeavors and bless us with success here in and hereafter. Ameen.

The Last Child First is the policy; Equal Opportunities for all is the struggle, Gender Neutrality is the mission, Values and Morality is the core of Y&M Anjuman Khairul Islam, since its establishment in 1927.
According to the 2011 Census, 840 Million Children in India don’t go to schools at all; 7.8 Million Children are forced to earn a livelihood even as they attend the schools. 58% don’t complete primary schools. 90% don’t complete schools. Each number has a story of a child, a mother, a father a son and daughter. These Social, Educational and Economical status and data suggests a new scale and speed in the efforts of improvisation. It compels wider collaborations among Government, NGOS, Activists and Civil Society.
Hopes and Dreams of generation are riding on Children and India is the country of youth and home to the largest Population of Children. Mensa, the oldest and largest society of High Intelligent Quotient- IQ, has reported that nearly 6 Millions under privileged children have the Genius IQ level of 130 to 150, which is equal to that of Hillary Clinton and Thomas Alva Edison.
With 4, Orphanages and nearly 50, KG to PG Educational Institutes, Y & M Anjuman Khairul Islam has an impact over millions of lives of poor, needy and underprivileged in the last 93 years.
The year 2019-20 is an important year and a milestone in the history of Anjuman Khaiurl Islam. We have laid the foundation stone of AKI’s Women’s’ College of Arts, Science and Commerce in Thane that will serve nearly 3000 Girls a year. We are establishing 5, Skill Development Institutions (MSBVEE) in Maharashtra for SSC Passed Students and Youths that will improve their Employability. We have also collaborated with Karnataka’s Shaheen Group of institutions for preparing students for All India entrance exams like NEET and JEE Advance in Mumbai.
We are committed to bring a lasting change for each and every children and youth irrespective of their gender, cast and creed.
May Allah Help us succeed in these endeavors. Ameen
