Department of Botany

The Department of Botany sprouted in 1970 as a young seedling buried in the field of educational society. It has grown into an educational forest within a short period of time, adopting a new nomenclature, keeping in tune with the trends of time, and societal demands. A new feather in the cap was introduction of special level T.Y. B.Sc. Botany in the year 1985. Since its inception, the Department has contributed a lot in terms of teaching, learning and research. We have a team of well enriched faculty members who contribute much to the development of the potential of students. With the support of the Management, we have established a very good infrastructure such as separate lab for under graduate students. We have a “Horticulture Garden” with more than 100 species of fruit plants with a separate Botanical Garden and vermi-compost unit too.  Numerous indigenous wild and ornamental plant species are cultivated in our college premises, some of which are used as raw material for practicals as per syllabi. Here, we achieve two goals: one – how to grow plants; the second one is to impart knowledge on uses of medicinal, ornamental and wild plants.

Goals

  • Impart knowledge of subject Botany to the deprived and weaker section of society.
  • To inculcate modern as well as traditional biotechnological techniques in our teaching- learning.
  • To improve skill based training in our students, thus increasing employability.
  • Provide several soft skills to improve socio- economic values which enable ability of the stakeholders to achieve their goals.
  • Provide them favorable atmosphere to boost their natural ideas.

Objective

  • A holistic development and academic excellence to contribute effectively to the understanding of the botanical science.
  • To produce quality and knowledgeable botany graduates capable of creating new developments for the society and preparing botanists of highest caliber for global standards of quality and commitment to service to the community.
  • Make aware of natural resources and environment and the importance of conserving it.
  • To develop skill in practical work, experiments, equipments and laboratory use along with collection and interpretation of biological materials and data
  • Appreciate and apply ethical principles to biological science research and studies
