Department of Zoology

The The Department of Zoology of AKI’s Poona College of Arts, Science and Commerce was established in the year 1970 at the undergraduate (B.Sc.) level. The progress of the department has been commendable and have successfully started the Postgraduate program (M.Sc.) in Zoology. The post-graduate program M.Sc. with specialization in Animal Physiology is commenced from 2005. Both Undergraduate and Post-graduate programs are affiliated to the esteemed Savitribai Phule Pune University. The Department is Grant-in-Aid for UG program (B.Sc. Zoology). The department has a received fund from DST-Government of India under the FIST scheme. Department caters education in both classical and applied aspects of the subject. The faculties are also actively engaged in various research areas including Aquaculture, Classical & Molecular Taxonomy of Parasites, Epidemiology & Pathogenicity of Parasitic Diseases, Biochemistry of Parasites, Cell & Molecular Biology, Toxicology & Physiology. The department has organized a two day National Seminar on ‘Recent Trends in Life science’ sponsored by Savitribai Phule Pune University & National Level Science Exhibition.

Objectives

  • To provide a broad multidisciplinary knowledge in Life Sciences.
  • To achieve excellence in teaching, research and extension education in the field of Zoology and Life Sciences.
  • To offer a modular course of lectures and associated seminars, research projects and practical classes, under the supervision of experienced teachers.
  • To provide constructive feedback on their progress, individual students will be assessed throughout the year in assignments.
  • To produce globally competitive graduates and post graduates in Zoology.
