While Electronics aims at making the human life more comfortable, Communication brings them closer and together. With this motto, after separating from the Department of Physics, the Department of Electronic Science was newly established in the year June, 1991, to begin its humble journey, diversifying and updating steadily throughout to reach its present status, as a distinguished seat of Electronics learning. It is now one of the renowned UG and PG departments in the Poona College under the Savitribai Phule Pune University. Over the period of 30 years since its inception, the department has successfully producing graduates and postgraduates of high caliber who was well-aware of the latest state of art technology and pursuing successful careers in varied domains/fields of specialization. The department known for reputed teaching and research has a team of highly qualified, dedicated and experienced faculty. While the Poona College celebrated its golden jubilee in the year 2019, the department successfully completed its 3 decades of serving the student community with quality education. The department was elevated to a PG (Electronic Science) Centre during the year June 2002 with 12 students and so far, 500 plus MSc. degrees have been awarded.

- To encourage internship and training provide wide scope of job opportunities in multi-disciplinary for pursuing higher education.

Research in the Department of Electronic Science, is centered in the areas of Solid state Solar cells, Wireless Sensor Networks, Nano crystalline Ferrite materials, Modelling and Simulation using OrCAD/Spice, Quality and Reliability of Electronic circuits/systems.
Three (03) major and six (06) minor research projects funded by national and state
agencies such as ISRO-STC, UGC, UGC-WRO, SPPU-QIP, UoP-BCUD, totaling to an amount of Rs. 42,51,200/- during the past 29 years have been successfully
completed.
The laboratory is well-equipped with high-end equipment’s like Potentiostat: Metrohm AUTOLAB PGSTAT302N, Citizen Analytical Balance (220gm), Magnetic Stirrer (Digital Display) with heating facility, Ultrasonic Cleaning Machine, Lab Muffle
Furnace Machine, digital storage oscilloscope, Analog and Digital Discovery Workstation for PG and UG Electronic Practical etc., including conventional testing and measuring instruments.
